PhD Candidate |
I am currently completing my PhD, at the Centre for African Conservation Ecology, Nelson Mandela University. My thesis explores the conservation and landscape ecology of lions in the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area of southern Africa, and examines the ecology of apex predators in the context of poaching and pastoralism. Prior to this I completed a MSc in Wildlife Management through the University of Pretoria on the ecology of lions in Limpopo National Park, Mozambique. I completed my BSc at Vancouver Island University for which I conducted camera trapping surveys of Canadian lynx as well as jaguars in Belize.
Before moving to Africa I worked as a biologist for the Yukon Territory government studying wolves, lynx and grizzly bears and before that worked as a guide in the Canadian Arctic. I am now program manager and principal researcher for the Greater Limpopo Carnivore Program in Mozambique, with the aim of restoring the meta-population viability of lions across the region and co-researcher with the Matusadona Lion Project in Zimbabwe. |
